Today (Saturday 12th May) is International Nurses’ Day, and the first day of RCN Congress in Belfast.
This year the Mental Health Forum has eleven delegates who are voting members – the Congress agenda has items for discussion and resolutions to vote on. Each of our delegates represents over a thousand members.
Over the next five days I’m going to do a daily blog update from Congress, and there’s plenty to follow on Twitter (use #RCN18) and on Facebook, as well as live streams of events, speeches and debates on the RCN website.
The trip didn’t start well as our flight from Birmingham was delayed with engine trouble!
The dramatic opening ceremony took place at Belfast Waterfront with welcoming speeches, followed by a reception at City Hall.
Tomorrow we begin the debates in earnest; we’re looking forward to representing Mental Health Nursing to the wider profession.
